Inspiring Stuff

So, what inspires us? I think I am lucky in that I can see beauty anywhere – there’s always a colour palate that I can see working for something else, or a shape that could translate to a piece of jewellery or clothing.The trick is to not always look at everything together but to break it down into smaller pieces until you find the part you like. Take this morning, for example, I was driving up the M1. It was raining and foggy, I was surrounded by tarmac and truckers and the prospect for the day looked pretty dismal. But the fog was patchy and covered the road in some places more than others and there was just this tiny point in between the patches where the most lovely blue-grey materialised. And then it was gone, just like that. But it worked. And it worked next to the black or the tarmac and the brown-grey of the fog and the reflection of the car in front’s brake lights…

So there’s definitely a scheme of earthy jewellery to be had from that, right?

But that wasn’t it. Most people would probably be annoyed if this happened to them and in fact, when it actually happened, I was annoyed and actually, for a split second, scared! Literally a ROCK flew up off the M1 and slammed into the top of my windscreen, approximately level with my face. My heart skipped a little beat, then I went “Oh, S**T”, and then a few cracks started creeping out of each side… and then I saw the amazing symmetry with which this has happened and I smiled. After a second, I remembered I should be watching the road and put on hold looking at the thing until I stopped in the services. But when I did, it sort of looked like a snowflake…

What was even more amazing (or annoying?!) was that it kept spreading. Every time I hit a little bump, it sort of extended by a few millimetres. It finally stopped, looking a little bit like that one there. Some snowy inspiration in time for Christmas I reckon…

Bake me a cupcake

So this was the process of us trying to bake our version of pretty little cakes! However not so edible but we still hope you can wear it, trendit.

Topshops doing it..

Pretty, glittery, icing. ..Soft sweet sponge... yep as delicious as they sound their not just to eat. Cupcakes have trended in clothing store Topshop and all around the UK. It has been an expanding thing, the trending of our scrummy cupcakes. Why not take a little inspiration of these pretty little things.

Inspiration grew from trends, festivals travels and more...

We like to think that stylish festival lovers provide our customer base as well as being our inspiration!  We love trend-spotting by looking at any festival pictures or even better, by going to festivals ourselves and doing it in person. Below is an example of five trendy girls, each with their own unique style (which we love by the way). All five of these girls execute different trends in their own way. We have a bit of everything from rock chick to urban, print on print, retro and more.

Our first stall

So here is our first day on the stall. We don’t think we had the right customers there, it did rain bit and was hidden in a secret garden area. However we had some good feedback and sales and most importantly of all we enjoyed ourselves! So we decided to continue with our experimenting and as our stock grew we eventually come up with the idea of Trendit! Alongside that, we came up with the slogan ‘make it, wear it, trendit’.

How it all started

Welcome to the Trenditonline blog, I’m Sarah and this is how it all started for me. I studied fashion design at university as well as college, so having studied fashion for five years and always being interested in it. I thought it was about time I tried to start being creative again. In my current job I done Visual Merchandising and it was creative in the sense that I could do whatever I wanted and didn’t have to follow any VM guidelines for the company. However it wasn’t quite creative enough and I thought it was about time I started doing something with my degree. I started playing around with chain and cubed beads, firstly with the ideas of doing festival names. Before that I used to make festival headbands, but then I thought perhaps names could work better and I could sell them all year round, not just during festival season. Then that’s when all ideas and experimentations escalated into more design and multi jewellery product.

I’m Stef – I would also like to welcome you to our blog! I was really arty and musical at school and fancied a fine art degree. I applied to Central St Martin’s but because I had a load of textile work in my portfolio they sent me off to London College of fashion with a recommendation to do my foundation degree there.

I spent the year there but it just wasn’t me. So, cue a massive 180, I went off and did a business studies degree instead! Kind of lucky really, cause when me and Sarah realised we both made awesome jewellery and that we had a fashion and business background between us, what better basis could there be to start a business!?
